We boost parents and carers to share books and rhymes with children from birth.
All children in Southend should get packs of reading goodies. These packs are free. They get these at key stages of their development:
- A baby bookstart bag. Get this from health visitors at around 6 weeks old.
- A treasure pack. Get this from an early year's setting in the term after the child turns 3 years old.
We also have:
- Booktouch packs for visually impaired children.
- Bookshine packs for hearing impaired children.
- Bookstart star packs for children whose disability affects their fine motor skills.
Contact Bookstart or your health visitor for more details.
If your child has not got a pack:
- Ask at your local library,
- Talk to your health visitor,
- Contact The Bookstart Team directly.
The library service offers Storyrhymes sessions for children under 5. These are half hour sessions and are free.
For more details:
- Search 'Storyrhymes',
