At Platform Theatre Arts, we deliver drama classes for children and adults from 7 to 25+ year olds in Southend, including young people with additional needs.
Classes are led by highly trained and qualified teachers, offering high quality classes in theatre and drama. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in multiple performances throughout the year. Our home is Kings Road United Reformed Church, Crowstone Rd, Westcliff-on-Sea, SS0 8LH.
Platform Theatre Arts is all about creativity, communication, and community. As a provider of quality and affordable youth theatre provision we focus on developing both drama and associated life skills in a friendly and inclusive environment. We offer up to 6 classes a week including Centre Stage and Platform Theatre Company.
Centre Stage is split into 2 age groups, 11-16 and 17+ year olds. These groups are designed for young people who are disabled and those with additional needs. Classes are smaller and are designed to meet the individual needs of the class. In Centre Stage, we explore storytelling through movement, music, scripts, writing and play. Centre stage is an inclusive space where young people can share their experiences and find their voice using theatre techniques. Classes are led by a highly experienced tutors, skilled in supporting children and adults with different levels of abilities, educational needs and communication styles.
Platform Theatre Company, for performers over the age of 18, focusing on developing and deepening skills in a range of theatrical styles and mediums with regular public performances in both traditional and non-traditional theatrical spaces. Indeed, we want our theatre programs to be as much about performance as development and want our students to feel part of one big company of performers, with opportunities to showcase both their individual group work and to work as part of the whole company. We will also be looking for opportunities to collaborate with other community and creative arts groups and creative arts professionals to connect the work we produce with the wider community.
Platform Theatre Arts strives to put the young people's voices and performance centre stage and it is important to us that we ensure that all our classes come together as a company for their performances.
