Description

USP College is a Further Education college, with three campuses in Benfleet, Canvey Island and Grays. It offers A-Levels, Professional qualifications (e.g. BTECs), Foundation Learning, Adult and Higher Education.

The College has built a strong reputation as a leading college in South Essex for SEND and the delivery of courses preparing young people with and without learning difficulties for adulthood to ultimately improve their life opportunities.

Following a recent Ofsted report, the College was graded as a Good provider and Outstanding for its provision for learners with high needs.

Ofsted said, "Support for learners with high needs, including for learners with SEND on study programmes, is exceptionally well planned and highly effective.

"Support staff are highly effective in ensuring that the help learners receive is expertly tailored to meet their specific needs and development targets."

Having increased access to education for young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, USP has placed itself at the heart of the community, ensuring local people have the ideal curriculum offer to get the best possible life chances. Working very closely with local special and mainstream schools, they continue to listen to the needs of their learners to guarantee a smooth transition into and throughout College. In addition to this, five local schools have day placements with the College to jointly support and develop the young people.

For students aged 16-24 with a Learning Difficulty Assessment (LDA) or Education Health & Care Plan (EHCP), the College offers a specialist department with clear progression opportunities for those who would benefit from learning within a supported environment.

For many young people coming to USP College is their first big step towards adulthood from the smaller specialist schools and sixth forms they have studied at previously. With programmes including the Supported Internship and Pathways, we offer a supportive and inspiring environment with Foundation Learning programmes, supporting them to meet their Preparation for Adulthood outcomes.
