Health4Life is a free, informative, and supportive local programme developed at Southend-On-Sea City Council and is aimed 5 to 16-year-olds and their families who are 'above a healthy weight range' strive towards a healthier lifestyle. A child being 'above the healthy weight range' is calculated using the Growth Charts and BMI Calculator where a child's weight, height, date of birth (DOB) and gender are all taken into account to get the reading.
Our programme for 5-11 year olds features six sessions aimed at helping families enhance their child's health, wellbeing and self-esteem. Each week, we explore different themes related to healthy lifestyles in a one-hour workshop. We work with both children and adults, providing personalised support and advice to help you take steps toward a healthier lifestyle. Additionally, children can enjoy a fun and engaging physical activity session designed just for them.
Example topics may include:- The Eatwell Guide & A Balanced Diet
- Snacks and Healthier Swaps
- Portion Sizes
- Understanding Food Labels
- Sleep & Screen Time
Health4Life adopts a holistic family lifestyle approach to weight management and is not a 'diet'. Although weight is not our primary focus, we will request height and weight measurements at certain appointments to ensure suitable information is provided.
For families to fully benefit from the programme, a commitment to regular appointments and collective efforts to improve eating and activity habits is essential. We recognise that changing habits can be challenging, but we are here to provide you with all the help and support you need along the way!
