Description

Age Concern Southend runs a Dementia Day Centre that gives people the opportunity to maximise their cognition, independence, and wellbeing, in addition to reducing social isolation. We incorporate well used interventions such as reality orientation, reminiscence work and multi-sensory approaches to implicit learning. By delivering this within the context of good person-centred care and supervised practice with appropriately trained staff, research shows that Cognitive Stimulation Therapy ( CST) offers a psychological evidence based treatment for people with Dementia.

Once there is a diagnosis of a Dementia, alongside pharmacological interventions, the NICE guidance (NG97) recommends people with a mild to moderate dementia are offered group Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST), as part of promoting cognition, independence and wellbeing. Age Concern Southend is running CST groups as part of our core work. This allows us to offer all people newly diagnosed with Dementia the option to attend a course of group CST in a safe, fun and friendly environment.

Our purpose-built facility, located with 'The Community Hub' in Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff has capacity for 14 clients each day, Monday to Friday. We welcome referrals from any source.
