As part of our community outreach programme we feel passionate about meeting the needs of everyone in the local community.
Making Waves is group is for children with additional needs, for example, Autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, as well as disabilities etc.
We will be providing fun activities, learning opportunities through the use of specialised equipment. We are hoping to address the social, emotional, physical, sensory and spiritual well-being, of the children and young people as well as their families and supporters. We hope to create a safe space for this community to grow and support each other in a mutually understanding and friendly environment.
We can be flexible with age ranges, especially if siblings are wanting to attend.
Our vision for the groups are to provide detailed sessions for the children and young people to learn through play and to meet their sensory needs. This is a great opportunity for parents and carers of the children to meet each other, to feel safe going out, to know their children are safe and to connect with others in the community who may be experiencing similar situations. Parents can share the time together to support one another.
Support, advice and strategies are given for those who would like it on areas such as Individual Support Plans, Education Health and Care Plans and Disability Living Allowance support.
Many young people are unable to access other after school clubs due to their needs; we will be providing a group for them to attend where they know that they are respected and are in a safe place with appropriate support, encouraging them to interact with others, as well as being able to talk freely and ask for help with such things as homework.
These groups will take place at Saint Cedd's Church, where we can provide disabled access, self-care facilities and a kitchen. Tea, coffee and snacks are provided.
We have volunteers who feel passionate about the same cause and are willing to give their time each week.
Leanne Baldwin, a part-time community worker, will be running these sessions, she is SENCO qualified and has many years of experience working with children with SEND. Leanne has qualifications in Basic ASD, SENDCo and Level 3 child educator. Our volunteers also have some of these qualifications.
We have policies in place to ensure quality safeguarding and equality is taking place in all groups the Church provides.
Please let us know if you or your children have any allergies. We would like to kindly ask, if any snacks are being brought into the sessions that they do NOT contain NUTS, thank you so much for your understanding.
All you need to do is, sign up and come along, everyone is welcome regardless of need.
