Description

The Kids Autism Hub is for young people aged 12 to 25 who are newly diagnosed with autism or who are on the diagnosis pathway, and the family members of those young people. The service helps families to understand more about autism and the different ways autism can affect different people. It includes:

  • autism guides - bite-size information on a wide range of topics to help you to understand autism and find strategies that work for you
  • personal stories - video interviews and stories featuring young autistic people and their parents discussing their own experiences of autism and offering their advice on how they've made it work for them
  • support groups - weekly group video calls led by people with lived experience and a professional. Here you can learn more about autism, ask questions, and hear the experiences of other people. These groups let you talk about different elements of the autistic journey, whether you want to sit and listen or share your story there is something for everyone.
  • directory - pointers to a range of high-quality autism services across Essex, Southend and Thurrock who can help with your individual needs. These have been carefully co-located with help from our steering groups.

The service was co-produced by families from Southend, Essex and Thurrock who have lived experience of autism. We worked with young people and their parents/carers to plan every aspect of the service.

The information we provide is split into a range of bite-size topics chosen by the families in our steering groups. It was written by experts with their own lived experience of autism.
