Local support in Southend

STARS (Southend Treatment And Recovery Services).

They can help people over 18 who struggle with drug or alcohol use. They give advice, information, and access to support groups. Call them on 01702 431889. YPDAS ( Southend Young People's Drug and Alcohol Service).

We support young people aged 12-17 years and the transitional age of 18-29, who are affected or experiencing issues with drugs and/or alcohol. Call them on 01702 431889. Adfam supports families affected by drug or alcohol use.

Alcoholics Anonymous allows people who have problems with alcohol use to support each other stop drinking, and to stay sober. Call their helpline on 0845 769 7555. You will be put in touch with your local support group. Calls to 0845 numbers are chargeable, rates vary.

Al-Anon give support and understanding to the families and friends of problem drinkers. Call their confidential Helpline on 0207 4030888 (open 10am-10pm).

Alateen is part of Al-Anon. It is for people aged 12-17, who have lived with someone with an alcohol problem. By going to meetings, young people gain an understanding of the illness and feel the benefits of realising they are not alone.

Alcohol Change gives information and guidance about alcohol.

Drinkline is the national alcohol helpline. If you're worried about your own or someone else's drinking, you can call their free helpline. They are open 24 hours a day. You can call them on 0800 917 8282.

Drinkaware is an independent charity. They have a wealth of information and tips on reducing alcohol consumption and drinking sensibly.

Families Anonymous is a world-wide fellowship of family members and friends affected by another's abuse of mind-altering substances, or related behavioural problems.

NHS Choices provides advice and information on alcohol and offers a database of support and treatment services.

The Samaritans provide confidential non-judgemental support 24 hours a day for people with feelings of distress or despair. Call 116123 for free.
