A Place to Live
Welcome to our new website. You may have previously known us as ‘Southend Information Point (SHIP)'. Don’t worry we have all the same information as the old site.
This category gives you information about where you can live, what choices there are for vulnerable adults, and what support is available for those at risk of homelessness.
The links to your right will guide you to information, advice, and guidance for applying for a council house. Please explore the links to South Essex Homes, Southend Borough Council, and Southend on the Move.
Care Homes and Sheltered Housing
If you, a friend, or a loved one are finding it more difficult to manage in the home, you might be in need of extra support. Careline alarm pendants provide extra peace of mind, and Telecare equipment can be installed to give further reassurance.
However, if you are looking for quality residential care homes, or sheltered accommodation, you might want to look at our "Living Independently" category. There are sheltered housing schemes which allow people to live independently, but in a community with other people, and with a warden on hand if help is needed.
For a full list of residential care homes in Southend, please perform a search in the directory search box to the left of the screen. On the right, you can explore links and read our fact sheets to get the right information about care homes and sheltered accommodation.
If you, a friend, or a loved one are at risk of homelessness, take a look at our ‘related services’ pages for links to Harp, who can provide emergency accommodation, hostel services, and programmes designed to help people improve their lives and get back on track. You could also look at Southend Borough Council’s homelessness guide to the right of the screen. For a list of hostels in Southend, perform a search in the box on the left.
