Southend Churches Winter Night Shelters
From December to March, seven churches will be open one night a week each.
They will provide 20 guests with an evening meal, a warm bed, and breakfast.
Volunteers are needed to cover evening, overnight and breakfast shifts, and to drive a minibus used on 2 (or maybe 3) evenings/mornings per week to transport guests between central Southend and church that is hosting the shelter that night.
Donations are requested and will go towards the cost of the food, clothes, toiletries, and other essentials for our guests as wellas helping cover the additional utility costs for the host churches.

We do not want to advertise the venues in case people turn up at the door and are disappointed when they find out that the shelter is full.
Instead we ask that potential guests are advised to go to HARP's Bradbury Centre (in York Road) so they can be assessed and referred to the Night Shelters from there.

The shelters open at about 19:30.
Depending on the venue, guests are asked to leave by 07:30 / 08:00.

If the Co-Ordinator cannot be reached, please try to contact the Deputy Co-Ordinator (Nina Alleyne)

Please note that we are not set up to be a "Community Cafe". Most of the shelters will only be able to provide a maeal and bed to people who are homeless or rough sleeping (i.e. living on the streets) and have been referred to us by HARP (see above).
