AFTAID - Aid for the Aged in Distress
Who to contact
AFTAID - Aid for the Aged in Distress, gives financial relief to older people who, because of ineligibility or receipt of partial funding through statutory or voluntary services, fall through the 'safety net'.
It makes emergency grants for bedding, cookers and other white goods, furnishings, heating and essential home repairs as well as other items that may make an older person's life more comfortable in the familiar surroundings of their home. Contributions are made towards more expensive items; eg a walk-in shower, motorised scooter (EPV), or perhaps a stair lift. Applications are also considered towards the cost of a respite holiday for an elderly carer.
What will AFTAID provide a grant for?
Nearly anything which is required to take away hardship from the day to day life of an older person. In recent years grants have been made to provide, or help in the purchase of:
Small Emergency House Repairs
Essential or Emergency House Cleaning
Central Heating Boiler
Video Intercom Installation of phone line
'Blind' software for PC
Wheelchair access ramp
