You can take action to reduce long-term health conditions later in life. 

A healthier life can help to cut the chances of a disability. It can make life more enjoyable for longer.

Small steps can reach great results, the hardest part is getting started

  • Dancing is a way to keep fit and meet new people.
  • Swimming is great exercise. The water supports your body and helps make exercising easier.
  • If you enjoy the outdoors you might want to try walking.
  • As you get fitter and more confident, you might want to try running
  • Cycling is something that anyone can do. Southend has many cycling initiatives.

You can stay fit as you grow older. Even if you have a long-term health condition or disability. We recommend that you talk to your GP.

The key to long-term good health is

  • Exercising
  • Quitting smoking
  • Good nutrition
  • Taking steps to build stronger bones

Get Healthy Southend can give information and advice. They offer one-to-one support to help you have better health and wellbeing.

Everyone can benefit from an NHS Health check. These are often available in the local community.

The Government has introduced an initiative called Change for Life. It has information to help families improve their health and well-being.
