Launch Press Release

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is excited to announce the launch of the newly designed website for health and wellbeing services in the Borough.

Livewell Southend holds a wealth of information regarding statutory services, health and wellbeing-related information and guidance, as well as a directory of local organisations and community groups.

There have been a number of improvements to the website following engagement work and a survey which took place earlier in the year with residents and healthcare professionals. Now, the website has a new look, local photos, a news section, an interactive map, and an improved search function to name a few upgrades – making it more user-friendly and easier to navigate.

The aim of the website is to celebrate what is on offer in the local community, varying from a mental health service to a yoga class, or a childminder to a toddler group – it’s where you go to find out how to live well in Southend. The website is run by the local community and funded by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council. There are many organisations that have been involved, including our partners Southend Association of Voluntary Services (SAVS) and Southend Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

Join the virtual website launch on Friday 2 October 8am-8pm where there will be live-streamed performances, a prize draw, talks and activities with local providers and demonstrations of how to use the website.

The event will be hosted online at the Livewell Southend facebook account: www.facebook.com/livewellsouthend

Cllr Trevor Harp, cabinet member for health and adult social care, said: “Providing residents with the information to support themselves and connect with their community is a crucial element in preventing ill health and has proved to be a successful approach across the country.

“A key feature of the website is the interactive asset map built using the Smart Southend platform. This shows all the assets on Livewell Southend on a map and we have added information which is particularly relevant for people at the moment such as foodbanks and food shops that do deliveries.

“We would like to thank the Southend community and SAVS for supporting this website. A special shout-out to the volunteers at the South Essex Community Hub for their hard- work on keeping the website information up to date.”

Krishna Ramkhelawon, the council’s director for public health, said: “This website can help us tackle wider health inequalities and other non-digital initiatives and we want to ensure the Livewell Southend offer is accessible to everyone. We especially want to make sure people who have been affected most by the Coronavirus pandemic have access to the information they need.”

Kristina Jackson, CEO at SAVS, said: “The Livewell platform is a fantastic resource, showcasing the quality and breadth of community services and assets available here in Southend. There are so many different ways that residents can access groups and services to improve their health and wellbeing. The platform will also enable the promotion and growth of new charities and groups starting to support our residents.”

Livewell Southend needs to be driven by the people who are going to use it – residents and professionals. If you’d like to get involved with shaping the website please email livewell@southend.gov.uk
