Southend-on-Sea City Council is developing a Preparing for Adulthood Strategy for children and young people with SEND. Parent carers and young people are invited to help shape it.

Southend-on-Sea City Council is embarking on a crucial journey to enhance the future for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). To ensure the most effective and inclusive Preparing for Adulthood strategy, the community is invited to have their say.

With a deep understanding of SEND, Kate Clarke, Preparing for Adulthood Advisor has a wealth of experience. As a former teacher, qualified SENCO, and Preparing for Adulthood manager, she has dedicated her career to supporting young people with diverse needs. Her expertise in navigating the complexities of Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and fostering successful transitions from education to adulthood is invaluable.

"I believe in the power of collaboration," says Kate. "By working closely with families, educators, and young people themselves, we can create a truly inclusive and effective strategy that meets the unique needs of every individual."

Two engagement sessions have already been held and there is still time for parent carers and young people to tell us what is important to them through a survey. The survey is open until 11 April 2025.
