The Director of Public Health at Southend-on-Sea City Council has given some sage advice about taking responsibility for your own health and wellbeing as part of a new podcast series.
Southend Adult Community College has started a new podcast series called The Wave Southend and the first episode is with Krishna Ramkhelawon, director of public health in Southend-on-Sea.
In the 15-minute interview he discusses the health priorities of Southend, why people need to take more responsibility for looking after their own health and how Covid and the global pandemic has helped revolutionise healthcare and the way appointments are conducted.
Krishna said: “I was really pleased to be invited to be part of the podcast series by the college and to launch it is even more of an honour.
“Health is all about education - if people have greater awareness and understanding of their bodies, nutrition, exercise, and movement, then they can prevent illness and be in peak shape for recovery if they do become ill.
“It’s also all about education and awareness for symptoms; knowing when your body is or isn’t behaving as it should and knowing when to seek medical advice. We must realise as a society that health starts at home.”
Maz Bah from Southend Adult Community College, said: “We’re really pleased that Krishna agreed to be the first in our wellbeing podcast series and we look forward to having him return at a later date, once we have spoken to several other experts about wellbeing and health related topics.”
You can listen to Krishna’s podcast online.
