National Strategy for autistic children, young people and adults
In July 2021, the government launched a national 5 year strategy for autistic children, young people and adults.
It was:
- a refreshed strategy for improving the lives of autistic people and their families and carers in England
It built on and replaced:
- the earlier adult autism strategy, Think Autism (published April 2014)
It extended the scope of the strategy to children and young people. This was done to recognise the importance of ensuring they are diagnosed and receive the right support:
- as early as possible and;
- across their lifetime
The strategy and its implementation plan were issued under section 1 of the Autism Act 2009.
