Southend SEND Area Partnership Year One Progress Report on Key Strategic Activity

The Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Strategy and the Southend Area Partnership Strategic Action Plan 2023 to 2026 both set out the local area's plans to jointly deliver its priorities and improvements for children and young people with SEND and their families.

The Strategic Action Plan incorporates the recommendations made by Ofsted and the CQC following the area inspection in March 2023.

Working together, the Southend SEND Partnership seeks continuous improvement in the delivery of services so that it can ensure children and young people with SEND have the right support at the right time.

The Area Partnership consists of:

  • Southend-on-Sea City Council
  • Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB
  • Commissioned Service providers including Education settings, The Lighthouse Child Development Centre, Public Health Services, CAMHS, SCC Education, Early Years and Inclusion Services, Children and Adult Services

The Councils Cabinet portfolio holder, Southend SEND Independent Forum (SSIF) (the Department for Education funded Parent Carer Forum for Southend), Healthwatch, and colleagues from the Department for Education and Department of Health and Social Care sit on the Partnership Board to support and hold leaders in Health, Education and Social Care to account.

The Partnership's strategic action plan should drive improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

On these pages you will find an outline of key activity undertaken during the first year of implementation of the Strategic Action Plan.
