Needs are identified throughout the Graduated Response. This includes at universal level by the teacher.
The teacher makes sure day-to-day support is planned and changed to meet all learner's needs. You can expect the teacher, support staff or the special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCo) to identify needs by:
- talking to you and your child or young person
- looking at their work
- observing within and outside the classroom
- reviewing your child or young person's progress against their targets
They may use a tool to help identify needs and support requirements.
Information about assessment tools that can support the early identification of additional or special educational needs and disabilities can be found here: Southend SEND: Early Identification and Support toolkit.
