Speech, Language and Communication Resource Base
Southend-on-Sea City Council commission a Speech, Language and Communication Resource Base (SLRB) at Fairways Primary School.
The base:
- provides support for pupils with speech and language disorder or significant language delay
- is an early identification and intervention base for children aged 4 to 7 years with speech, language and communication needs (Key Stage 1 and 2). In very exceptional circumstances children may enter in Key Stage 2
Admissions are agreed by the SLRB and the local authority to ensure that the right pupils are admitted. Suitable pupils will have an education health and care plan (EHCP) with speech, language and communication as the primary learning difficulty.
In exceptional circumstances admission may be sought on an assessment placement basis. This may be following the advice of an expert, such as the outreach teacher for speech and language or a Speech and Language Therapist and will be agreed in conjunction with the local authority and the SLRB.
