Heycroft Primary School is a two-form entry school in Eastwood, Leigh on Sea Essex. The school is under the local authority of Southend on Sea.

The school's core values are Respect, Excellence and Determination which are promoted throughout the school and its policies. A broad, balanced curriculum is offered alongside meeting the social, emotional and academic needs of the pupils.

The school has extensive grounds including a large field, forest area, swimming pool and school pond and actively promotes outdoor learning. 

The school has a commitment to promoting the creative arts. The school is a recipient of the Healthy Schools award and promotes healthy lifestyles.

How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

The school liaises closely with local pre-school settings and will discuss particular needs of children joining the school. As well as carrying out our own internal assessments we have close relationships with local organisations to help with assessments and ensuring the right support is in place. 

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person? How will the teaching be adapted for my child with SEND?

Following assessments and meetings with professionals and parents, a team around the child and family (TACAF) meeting will be arranged to determine the best support for the child attending the school. Provision is regularly reviewed and adapted in light of experience and knowledge gained. 

How will the cirriculum be matched to my child's/young persons needs?

The school's inclusion manager coordinates programmes to support the child involving other staff members, the local authority and other appropriate agencies. Regular communication is established with parents. 

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me support my child's/young person's learning?

This is done through regular reviews of the child's ISP (individual support plan) as well as ongoing communication with parents/carers.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall wellbeing?

The child's well-being is paramount and support for their mental, social and emotional needs is provided through a range of specialist staff as well as in class. 

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the school/setting/college?

Staff are trained in the administration of medicine and providing personal care. Up-to-date policies on intimate care and medicines in school are available on the school's website. 

Behaviour plans are put in place for children that require this involving outside agencies if this is needed. Children's views are regularly sought through the use of one-page -profiles. 

What training are the staff supporting the children and young people with SEND have had or are having?

Staff receive regular training in order to meet the needs of pupils. This has included:

• Diabetes
• Epilepsy
• Autism 
• ADHD
• Anaphylaxis

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

Heycroft is an inclusive school an every effort is made to ensure all pupils are able to access all activities. 

How accessible is the setting/school/college environment?

The school has ramps into the school, a lift to the first floor and adapted toilet facilities.  Resources are adapted to meet the needs of the pupil population. 

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

Transition to Heycroft and from Heycroft as well as between year groups is planned with the parents to ensure this is as smooth as possible. 

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

As part of the annual review, children's changing needs are identified and resources adapted as appropriate. Careful consideration is given as to how best to allocate available resources. 

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

Decisions are made through consultation with all the members of the TACAF and is ultimately approved by the headteacher. 

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

Parents are actively involved throughout the time children attend school and in every significant decision.
