Nisai Virtual Academy - Early years and education

Nisai believe that everyone has equal value and should have access to high quality education around the world. It is our mission to give traditional and non-traditional learners the skills to flourish through innovative online education and by influencing positive institutional change. We provide a friendly, supportive learning community and offer our students incredible opportunities. In essence, we support learners from Key Stages 3 to 5 and help create pathways to further education and employment through personalised learning. Our goal is to ensure that every student can complete their education and gain accredited academic qualifications within Functional Skills, GCSEs and A Levels.

Our support also covers:

• Long-term: curriculum for Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
• Short-term: rolling flexible curriculum ranging from 1 hour to 15 hours per week.
• Personalised Learning Support: online academic with the 1:1 support of a mentor.

• High impact, low-level literacy support through Units of Sound.

• N-HELPP English Language proficiency programme
• Virtual Mentoring - Offers an additional support system for life skills, homework confidence and general emotional wellbeing.

SEND Support

Nisai are section 41 approved. We have supported learners with various SEND barriers including: Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia, Global Delay and Moderate Learning Difficulties. With many SEND learners being in possession of an EHCP, we can support them to achieve their educational ambitions.

Learners with SEND who have joined Nisai in Key Stages 3 and 4 have gone on to achieve their chosen pathway, whether that be College, University, or the workplace.

We meet the needs of many challenges experienced by SEND learners such as avoiding eye contact and providing a familiar routine through timetabled lessons. We remove them from their physical space and place our learners in smaller virtual classes (no more than 15 students). Subsequently, they can focus on their education without having the distraction of 25 plus other students.

Our students are based across the country and their lessons are being accessed anywhere with an internet connection using a laptop, tablet, or PC. Our teachers are based from our office in Stockton-On-Tees.

We believe everyone has the right to education, so we take a high-quality school environment and deliver it via the internet. Nisai is entirely dedicated to supporting students with special educational needs. Nisai is a Section 41 Approved Provider which allows us to be listed as an educational provider in Section I on any Post 16 Educational Health and Care Plan.

How does the setting/school/college know if children/youngpeople need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

Nisai work very closely with schools and Local Authories to help those with SEND, to provide them with an educational that is personalised and tailored to their needs. We work very closely with different charities such as Amibitous Autism, Dsylexia Action and the Tymes Trust to ensure that we provide our students with the best possible education. We cater for a variety of SEN students, including:

• ASD
• Medical illness including ME, anxiety
• EBSD
• Looked after children

The environment that Nisai provides, an online curriculum based education with specially trained staff and small classes, brings a personalised education to our students from a location they feel most comfortable.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person? How will the teaching be adapted for my child with SEND?

All of the teachers at Nisai have recieved specialist training in conjunction with staffordshire University to teach for the Nisai platform and SEN students. For over 10 years, Nisai has brought education to those who may not have recieved it otherwise.  

The education of a student is discussed with the student, parents, teachers, Local Authorities and any others involved and is resassessed every 6 weeks.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young persons needs?

If mainstream school isn't an option, if the student is too ill, has difficulty being in a large classroom, has behavioural issues or numerous other factors, Nisai is a brilliant option for them. Our students can study in their own environment.  

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me support my child's/young person's learning?

Every student has an induction process, which assess their abilities and their educational and life goals. We then place the student in a class suited to their ability (rather than age so they can improve at their own pace without embarrassment or fear), and closely monitor their engagement, attendance and interaction during each and every class.

Due to the nature of the platform, we are able to monitor progress and issues closely and then deal with them very quickly, because we can see what issues our students are having in different classes. Parents and teachers can see what assignments their student has completed, what is left to do and overall how that student is doing.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall wellbeing?

Every student is placed in a house group to take part in house activities, with a form tutor and personal advisor, where a personal wellbeing plan is produced and reassessed every 6 weeks to discuss the students progress.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the school/setting/college?

We provide multiple courses including GCSEs and A Levels and for those studying in a Learning Zone or Hub, which are blended with schools inthe area, vocational courses may also be available.

What training are the staff supporting the children and young people with SEND have had or are having?

Nisai teachers have been trained specially to teach for our platform and for SEND students and we are constantly developing the platform and the courses we offer.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

We provide a very holistic learning environment with guest speakers, forums, etc to talk with our students on various topics.
