Description

The role of the Southend Virtual School is to promote the educational outcomes of cared for children, previously looked after children, care-experienced school leavers and children with a social worker, from age 2 to 18.

Southend Virtual School are an innovative team of educational professionals working alongside schools, colleges and education settings, to provide support and challenge and ensure that they provide the best provision for children and young people in our care and care leavers.

The Virtual School has a staffing structure similar to that of an actual school, just without a school building. Children and young people will remain enrolled at their existing school or setting, with the Virtual School offering support, guidance and training, to ensure that educational services are effectively co-ordinated and that cared for children and young people get the best opportunities to help them reach their fullest potential and are in a productive place of safety, enjoyment and learning.

Southend Virtual School aims to be at the forefront of developing best practice in the education of cared for children and previously looked after children. We focus on key areas including early years, special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), statutory-aged transitions, Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC), post 16 and care leavers. We focus on challenge and raising the aspirations of all of our young people.
