The SEND community are invited to tell us about your lived experience of education, health and social care services and hear about local SEND system developments

SSIF, the parent carer forum for Southend and the SEND Local Offer team invite you to tell us about your lived experience of education, health and social care services and hear about local SEND system developments.

This is an event for:

  • young people with special educational needs or a disability (SEND) who live in Southend-on-Sea
  • parent carers of children and young people with SEND who live in Southend-on-Sea
  • members of the Southend SEND Network

It will cover 2 areas:

  1. tell us about your lived experience to feed into the SEND Specific Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA)
  2. learn about progress against the SEND Strategic Action Plan. Read the SEND Strategic Action Plan here

The SEND Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA)

A SEND Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) uses a range of data and evidence such as lived experience from across the system to:

  • provide a wider understanding of needs in Southend
  • identify gaps in services or provision
  • improve the health and wellbeing of the local community and reduce inequalities
  • support local joint commissioning decisions
  • enable partners to do things in a joined-up way that makes best use of locally available resources

Once completed, the JSNA will summarise its findings and make recommendations on how gaps may be addressed to ensure children, young people and their families are supported across the SEND system.

A range of stakeholders across education, health and social care have been involved in developing the data aspect of the draft JSNA. We now need to ensure the JSNA includes views from families that use local service to ensure it captures a broad range of evidence and feedback.

The draft JSNA summary report will be shared soon.
