People with a learning disability can have poorer physical and mental health than people who do not have a learning disability. This does not need to be the case.
Annual health checks are free. They are for people over 14 years old:
- have a learning disability and;
- are on their GP learning disability register
An annual health check helps you stay well. Talk to a doctor or nurse about your health and anything that is worrying you. It can help find any problems early. This helps make sure you get the right care.
You do not have to be ill to have a health check. Most people have their annual health check when they're feeling well.
Tell a doctor or nurse:
- if you are worried about seeing them
- if there is anything they can do to make your visit better
They will help make sure it goes well for you.
