Becoming a parent
Many people say that becoming a parent is one of life's most challenging and rewarding experiences, but you need time to recover from the birth, to rest and to get to know your baby. You will also need time and support in your new role as a parent.
The health visiting service will offer professional support from the antenatal period up until your child/ren turn 5 years old. Health Visitors are registered nurses or midwives that have attended university to complete a specialist public health qualification. Working alongside Health Visitors are:
- Staff nurses
- Health Visitor Assistants
- Administration staff
All children are offered the Healthy Child Programme which consists of:
- An antenatal contact
- New birth visit at day 10 to 14
- 6 to 8 week check
- 3 to 4 month contact
- Under 1 year development assessment
- 2 to 2.5 year development assessment
We offer additional support where assessment is needed.
