Who is a young carer?

A young carer is someone aged under 18 who provides care for a friend or family member unable to manage without their assistance due to:

  • illness
  • disability
  • mental health issues
  • addiction

Older young carers are sometimes referred to as young adult carers, and they may have distinct support requirements compared to younger carers.

There is a range of support that can be offered to Young Carers.
