How to prepare for the assessment
Prior to your assessment, it may be helpful to write a day-to-day diary of the caring tasks you do. Some of the areas you will be asked about in your assessment includes:
- your personal, family situation and history
- the people you care for
- the care and support you provide, and which parts are most important
- other caring responsibilities you may have (for example children or family members)
- your living situation (housing, finance, transport, domestic tasks)
- the impact of caring on your social life, family and work life
- the impact of caring on your physical, mental and emotional health
- what support you receive from others (for example family, friends, community, GP) and what support you have identified you need
- and your ability to continue to care
