English difficulties

English difficulties relate to reading, writing, and spelling. You can expect the teacher within the classroom to make changes to meet needs for every child or young person.

For example, putting the following into place:

  • word banks
  • pencil grips
  • planners
  • practical equipment such as a laptop
  • visual signs
  • labels

A child or young person having english difficulties does not necessarily mean that they have English as an additional language.

Some children may have difficulties that are more specific. Specific Learning Difficulties (SPLD) is an umbrella term for a group of learning difficulties. This includes dyslexia.
