Social communication difficulties

You can expect the teacher within the classroom to make changes to meet needs for every child or young person.

For example:

  • using clear, specific language
  • using visual resources like visual timetables, task planners or displaying rules and routines
  • breaking activities down into smaller steps

Some children may also have:

  • trouble with social skills, understanding rules or interacting with others
  • repetitive behaviours and routines
  • sensory and/or social and emotional mental health difficulties
  • Autism, Dyspraxia, selective mutism or other diagnoses
