Hearing and vision difficulties

You can expect the teacher within the classroom to make changes to meet needs for every child or young person.

For example:

  • seating the child where they can see and hear what is happening
  • ensuring they are not looking directly towards a light source
  • keeping the workspace free from clutter
  • providing access to a quiet area
  • using strategies to get attention, such as using the pupil's name before speaking
  • not covering their mouth with their hands
  • standing still when speaking
  • reminding children to use their glasses, contact lenses or hearing aids

The child may be referred by health professionals to the Vision and Hearing Support Service.
