Hearing and vision difficulties
You can expect the teacher within the classroom to make changes to meet needs for every child or young person.
For example:
- seating the child where they can see and hear what is happening
- ensuring they are not looking directly towards a light source
- keeping the workspace free from clutter
- providing access to a quiet area
- using strategies to get attention, such as using the pupil's name before speaking
- not covering their mouth with their hands
- standing still when speaking
- reminding children to use their glasses, contact lenses or hearing aids
The child may be referred by health professionals to the Vision and Hearing Support Service.
